A shopper asks ChatGPT for the best electric toothbrush for sensitive gums. ChatGPT does not answer with a list of brands. It answers with products: a model name, a price, a rating, sometimes a store to buy it from. Your brand can be well known and still lose that answer, because the product ChatGPT picked is a competitor's.
Brand tracking misses this. You see your brand cited or not, never which of your products made it into the answer, or which ones never do.
What does the products view show?
The Products page lists every product that AI engines cite on your tracked questions, yours and your competitors', in one ranking.
Each product, with its brand and category. Your products carry your brand badge. Competitors' products carry theirs. Categories group products the way shoppers compare them.
How often it is recommended. The mention rate over the period, and the number of answers that cite the product.
Filters that match your questions. By category, by brand (yours, your competitors', or both), by period and by engine, with a search across products and brands.
The products AI never cites. The Never cited filter shows the products of your own catalog that no answer has named over the period.
Open a product and you get its own page: answers over time, the engines that cite it, the questions that bring it up, and answers by engine. When an engine shows a product card, you also see what the shopper sees: the average rating, the price shown most often, and the stores the card points to. If the product is linked to a page of your site, the page is there, with a link to its diagnostic.
How does Mentionable find products in AI answers?
Mentionable reads each answer on your tracked questions and picks up products from two places.
Product cards. Some engines, ChatGPT in particular, show shopping cards next to their answer, with a product name, a price, a rating, a review count and a store. Mentionable records each card.
Names in the text. A product named in the sentences of the answer is detected too. Because a name in a sentence is less certain than a card, a product only seen in the text lands in a To review tab until you confirm or reject it.
Your own catalog comes from your site. When Mentionable crawls your site, the product pages it finds become your products, so they exist in the list before any AI cites them.
Products are named many ways: a size, a color, a pack of three. Mentionable folds those variants into one product. When it thinks two entries are the same product, it suggests a merge, and you decide. Anything wrong can be fixed by hand: rename a product, change its category or brand, merge it, split some names into a separate product, or mark it as a store or a competitor brand. The whole history follows the change.
Each answer page of a question also lists the products detected in that answer, so you can check a product mention against the text it came from.
Why track products and not only your brand?
Because on a buying question, the product is the answer.
A shopper who asks an AI which serum, which running shoe or which coffee machine to buy reads a short list of models and picks one. A brand that is named but whose products are not on that list loses the sale to the product that is. And a brand can be strong on one category and absent from the next: cited for its toothbrushes, never for its interdental brushes.
The products view shows that split. It also changes how your brand is counted: on an e-commerce project, an answer that recommends one of your products counts as a mention of your brand, even when the brand name is not written. Your competitors get the same treatment, so the competitor ranking reflects who actually wins the shelf.
Can my own AI read product share of voice?
Yes. Through the Mentionable MCP server, your own AI can list your products, read a product's detail, and go further than the page:
- Product share of voice by category: the share of product mentions that go to your brand in each category, overall and by engine, with the leading brands and products.
- The question by product matrix: which question brings up which product, with the questions where a competitor's product is cited and none of yours listed first.
The AI assistant in your dashboard reads the same data and can answer questions like "which category am I losing?" in plain language. The MCP server is included in the plans that offer it.
How do I turn on the products view?
The products view is part of the e-commerce mode of a project, a single switch.
When you create a project, Mentionable reads your site. If it looks like an online store, the question Do you sell products online? is already ticked. You can change it at any time in the project settings, under Online store.
Turning it on does two things. Products appears in your navigation, under Measure, with Retailers as soon as a first store is found in the answers. And the stores and products that AI cites are sorted apart from your competitors, including the ones already found, so your competitor list keeps only real competing brands. Turning it off undoes nothing: only the next scans go back to the usual sorting.
The retailers view comes with the same switch: it shows the stores AI sends shoppers to, and whether your brand is cited with them.
Which plans include the products view?
Every offer, and the 7-day free trial. Product detection runs on the scans of your tracked questions, so there is no separate scan to set up.
