Key Takeaways

  • Mentionable connects to Google Search Console in read-only mode. It never changes anything in your property.
  • It imports the clicks, impressions and average position of each page, day by day, and the queries behind each page, then refreshes them after every site crawl or whenever you click Sync.
  • It asks Google whether the pages that matter are indexed: the pages tied to your prompts and the first pages of your plan. A page missing from Google's index becomes a Site health problem, because AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini search that index.
  • Your Action plan uses the Google data to order pages: pages close to the top of Google, pages losing clicks, and pages that bring traffic, which get fixed rather than rewritten.
  • Once a page is fixed, its Google impressions and clicks are compared before and after, next to its effect in AI answers.

Your Action plan can tell you which pages AI engines ignore. It cannot guess, on its own, which of those pages Google has never indexed, or which one quietly brings in a third of your traffic. Google Search Console knows. Connect it once, and Mentionable reads it for you.

Why does Google data matter for AI visibility?

Because a large part of AI search still runs on Google.

AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini search Google's index before they write an answer. A page Google has not indexed is a page these engines cannot cite, however good it is. A crawler can tell you a page looks indexable. Only Google can tell you it is actually in the index.

The second reason is caution. Some of your pages already bring visitors from Google. An AI visibility plan that tells your team to rewrite one of them, without knowing it, can cost you traffic you already had. Search Console is what tells Mentionable which pages to handle with care.

How do you connect Search Console?

In a few clicks, from Site health, from the Integrations tab of your project settings, or during your onboarding.

You sign in with the Google account that manages your site in Search Console and allow read-only access. Mentionable then lists the properties that account can read, your site's property first, and you pick the right one. The first import starts right away and arrives in a few minutes.

Read-only means exactly that: Mentionable reads your performance data and runs URL inspections. It cannot submit a sitemap, remove a page, add a user or change a setting.

If Google access expires or is revoked, Site health tells you and offers to reconnect, keeping the property you had chosen.

What does Mentionable import?

Page performance, day by day. For each page: clicks, impressions and average position. The first import goes back three months, enough to compare the last four weeks with the four before and to measure a fix. After that, every sync adds the new days and reads the most recent ones again, since Google keeps revising them for two to three days.

The queries behind each page. The searches that brought impressions to each page over the last 28 days.

Indexing, page by page. Mentionable runs Google's URL inspection on the pages that matter most: the pages tied to your prompts and the first pages of your Action plan.

The data refreshes after every site crawl, and whenever you click Sync.

What changes in Site health?

A new problem can appear: Page not indexed by Google.

It is filed at the "AI impact" level, because a page outside Google's index cannot appear in AI Overviews, AI Mode or Gemini. The problem shows Google's own coverage status for the page, such as "Crawled - currently not indexed", and what to do: check that the page is linked from your site and listed in your sitemap, that it says something your other pages do not, then request indexing in Search Console.

Each sync replaces the previous answer. A page Google has since indexed leaves the list on its own.

What changes in your Action plan?

Your Action plan ranks pages by what they can win in AI answers. With Search Console connected, Google's view joins the score.

Pages close to the top move up. A page in positions 4 to 20 with real volume, or with a click rate far below what its position should bring, is worth the work.

Pages losing ground move up. A page whose clicks have dropped sharply compared with the previous 28 days gets attention before it drops further.

Pages that bring traffic are protected. A page that brings a meaningful share of your Google clicks has more to lose. It moves up the plan, and it is fixed, never sent to a full rewrite.

Pages that no prompt covers are also weighed by what they bring from Google, so the plan does not treat a page with no visitors and your best page the same way.

How does it measure your fixes?

When you fix a page, Mentionable measures the effect in AI answers: brand mentions and citations of the page on its prompts, before and after. With Search Console connected, the page fix also shows the page's Google impressions and clicks over the same number of days before and after the fix, as soon as a week of data has come in.

You see both sides of the same change in one place: what moved in AI answers, and what moved in Google.

Who is it for?

For any marketing team that already has Search Console set up and does not have an SEO to read it. Mentionable reads it for you and puts the answer where you act: in Site health, in the Action plan and in each fix.

Connecting Search Console is optional and included in every plan. Anyone on your team with edit rights can connect it. On an agency workspace, the client's own Search Console feeds the client's project.

It all sits inside Site health, next to the monthly crawl of your site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why connect Google Search Console to an AI visibility tool?

Because several AI engines answer from Google's index. AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini search it before they write. A page Google has not indexed cannot be cited by them, and only Search Console tells you for sure. The same connection also tells Mentionable which pages bring you traffic today, so the Action plan does not ask you to rewrite a page that already performs.

Can Mentionable change anything in my Search Console?

No. Mentionable asks Google for read-only access to Search Console. It reads performance data and runs URL inspections. It cannot submit a sitemap, remove a URL, add a user or change any setting in your property.

What data does Mentionable import from Search Console?

Clicks, impressions and average position for each page and each day, the first import covering the last three months, and the queries that bring impressions to each page over the last 28 days. It also runs the URL inspection on the pages that matter most and records which ones Google has not indexed.

How often is the Search Console data refreshed?

After every site crawl, and whenever you click Sync, with a few minutes between two manual syncs. Google publishes its data with a delay of two to three days, so the most recent days are read again at each sync.

What does Search Console change in my Action plan?

It adds Google's view to the score of each page. A page in positions 4 to 20 with real volume, or with a click rate far below its position, moves up. So does a page that has lost a large part of its clicks compared with the previous 28 days. A page that brings a meaningful share of your Google clicks is fixed, never sent to a full rewrite.

Do I need Search Console to use Mentionable?

No. Site health, page fixes and the Action plan work without it. Search Console adds Google's indexing answer, real clicks and positions, and the Google side of each fix's impact.

What happens if I disconnect Search Console?

The connection and the imported data are removed from the project, including the not-indexed problems in Site health. You can reconnect the same Google account at any time and the import starts again.
