You're tracking 20 prompts about marketing consulting. But who is actually asking these questions? A startup founder evaluating their first hire? An e-commerce brand looking to switch agencies? A marketing manager building a case for an external consultant?
Each of these people asks differently, and AI engines answer them differently. ChatGPT does not recommend the same consultant to a bootstrapped founder and to a marketing director with a large budget. If you only track the neutral version of a prompt, you miss that difference.
One prompt, several people asking it
A persona in Mentionable is a short context block: your customer's role, country and situation, written in the first person. Mentionable adds it in front of the prompt before sending it to the AI engines. The model then answers as if it were talking to that specific person.
Same prompt, different persona, different answer. That's the point. Not "Marketing Mary, 35, likes yoga" but "I'm the founder of a 5-person SaaS startup in Berlin, I have a small budget and I'm hiring my first marketing consultant."
Creating and assigning personas
You create personas on the Personas page of your project. Give each one a name and a context, then assign it to one or several prompts from the Prompts page, one prompt at a time or with bulk edit.
Personas are stored per project. You can edit or delete one at any time: the change applies from the next scan, and existing results are preserved. The prompt count next to each persona shows which ones are actually in use.
How personas improve your strategy
Knowing how the AI answers each of your customer profiles changes how you create content and position your brand.
Content targeting: if the AI recommends you to technical buyers but not to non-technical founders, your content probably speaks only to the first group. Pages focused on outcomes, ease of use and ROI can close the gap.
Prompt selection: personas help you evaluate whether you're tracking the right prompts. If your best customers are budget-conscious, their version of the prompt matters more than the neutral one.
Positioning clarity: LLMs recommend brands whose positioning matches the person asking. If you disappear as soon as the persona asks for simplicity, your site probably talks about "comprehensive enterprise solutions" and the engines have noticed.
What it costs
Each persona assigned to a prompt is scanned as a separate unit. A prompt with no persona is scanned once per engine, a prompt tracked under 3 personas is scanned 3 times per engine and uses 3 times the credits. Assign personas to the prompts where the audience really changes the answer, not to every prompt.
